2/3/09 baseball news

With the superbowl over and the steelers being crowned champions of the NFL, baseball season is gearing up as pitchers and catchers report to spring training in about a week and a half. Since the crowning of baseballs 2008 champions the Philadelphia Phillies baseball has gone through some blockbuster signings throughout the winter months. None as superior as the New York Yankees with the signings of pitcher A.J. Burnett, and CC Sabathia, and heavy hitting first baseman Mark Texeira to boost their lineup. Aside from the Yankees other major names have been going elsewhere such as outfielder Pat Burrel to the Tampa Bay Rays, relief and closing pitchers J.J. Putz and Francisco Rodriguez heading to Queens to bulk up the Mets bullpen. Still on the market however is big slugger and future hall of famer Manny Ramirez still trying to find a home for the upcoming season having batted .332 with 37 HR’s and 121 runs batted in 2008 it is still remarkable how no one has yet picked him up.
